Our Bedroom Mini-makeover

Since this room was the first room of the house we tackled, I'm not technically including it in the house renovation. However, we have rearranged a bit of furniture and purchased new sheets and curtains, so I thought it was worth sharing.

Office Makeover- The Reveal

Have I mentioned this is my favorite room makeover? Mostly because it's so mine. Because I had to make such a small space so multi-functional, I'm going to break this post down by each wall of the room.

I've actually been dreaming of the craft wall of this room since before I met Aaron. When I was growing up, my bedroom was where I slept and kept my clothes, but it was the only space I had all to myself, so I had to make it into my homework space, sewing/crafting space, etc. Then I went to college and had even less space. My grand life plans always included living in a tiny apartment in a big city, so for years I've been planning my dream craft space as something small. That didn't exactly happen, however I didn't want to take up too much space in the house, so I didn't mind trying to fit this much functionality onto just one wall.

Here is a break down of how I organized it all.

The next wall is a little bit of an extension of the craft space because it holds my sewing mat, but it's mostly just my dresser/vanity.

The third wall is shoes and jewelry and the fourth wall is closet for more of my clothes.

So that's it for the house renovation. It was exhausting and I doubt I'll ever take on a fixer upper this big without a contractor again. It's nice to just sit back and enjoy it now. DIY Magnetic Chalkboard Tutorial

This was a really easy piece of decor I made for my office. 

For this tutorial, you will need:

-A frame. I got mine at Michaels.
-A baking sheet that pretty closely fits the size of the frame. Mine is a little smaller, but I still have enough of the lip over lapping the frame to make it work.
-Chalkboard spray paint
-Hot glue gun and glue

Step 1: Spray the baking sheet with Chalkboard paint. Use two coats if you feel like you need to. Let it dry.
Step 2: Glue the lip of the sheet to the back of the frame. Flip it over and you're done! 

My Office Makeover- Painting the Dresser

Part of the issue of moving into this house was that Aaron had already lived here for nearly 2 years with his Grandmother, therefore he already had all his stuff here and had places for it. So when I moved in, it meant we had to rearrange his routine to accommodate my stuff. Not only is this last room an office/sewing room for me; it's also a closet/ dressing room. Therefore, I needed a place for all my clothes. 

This dresser was just sitting in the basement not really storing much, so I decided to claim it for my own. 

It needed a good cleaning and sanding then it was time to paint.

I started with a really good primer using a smaller roller. Then I sanded again.

Then I painted. This piece was awesome to paint because there weren't any curves or anything fancy. I used the same color I used on the piano. "Bird Song Blue" by Valspar.

2 coats of paint and some new knobs from Home Depot and now I have a great new piece of furniture.

The mirror I rested on top was found by my parent's in their home when the moved in in the 80's. It sat in our garage for about 20 years!

My Office Makeover- The Paint

We've made it to the last room of the house. We've put our stamp on literally every room in this house and it feels so good to be done and just be able to enjoy it. This room is my favorite of all we've done! Through out the rest of this month I'll be posting about all the projects that made this room come together. The first project was cleaning out the room and giving it a nice, fresh coat of paint. 

The room started like this:

Most of the furniture was built in so there is a good chunk of baseboard missing around the room.

I forgot to take a picture before Aaron started working. He's not amused.

We choose the same color as the bathroom and guest room. "Urban Sunrise" by Valspar 

Here is the after color. I can't show you much because it would give away too many surprises, but you can see how much nicer it is than the powder blue.
